6 Common Dieting Myths Revealed

You may have wanted to start a diet many times in the past, only to shy away from it because of some of the things you’ve heard or the self-doubt you have to succeed. There are many myths about dieting, and hopefully, we’ll dispel them today!

The greatest myth that people fall victim to is that they can quickly lose weight by cutting the maximum number of calories they can from their diet and starving themselves. This is very dangerous and unhealthy. Your body starves and it starts to shut down reducing the amount of weight you can lose. Many individuals simply want to lose weight quickly because there is a piece of clothing they want to fit into or there is a special event that’s coming up soon. Don’t wait until the last minute to start a diet.

Another myth we face in our quest for a slimmer waistline is the one that tells us to only eat a certain type of food all day, every day. Grapefruit, pepper-laden water, and even hotdog diet fads have resulted in many binges over the years. If you continue doing these crazy fad diets, your body will not receive the nutrients it needs to repel disease and keep you healthy.

You may have also heard that you can never stray from your diet. If you do, you’ll need to exercise for hours to make up for it. This isn’t true. It’s ok if you have some frozen dessert once in a while. All you need to do is adjust your calorie intake for that day. You don’t have to spend hours exercising if you decide to have some treats.

Another popular myth is the one that prohibits you from eating anything before you turn in or else you will gain weight in your sleep. This is by far a large myth because dieting means that you’re indeed eating healthy and you are watching the number of calories you have for the day. A small, light snack will not have a big impact. If it was a full 3 or 5 course meal, then this is where you would want to avoid eating.

How about the one that says you can not eat anything between meals? In fact, it is better if you do eat some snacks between meals. Eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your hunger satisfied. By eliminating snacks between meals, you’re only going to make yourself hungrier at meal times, which cause you to eat a lot more than you really need just to satisfy your hunger.

There is another myth that says you shouldn’t consume any dairy products at all because they’re too fattening. Dairy contains nutrients your body needs, so you should have some dairy – in fact, some studies suggest those who consume, have better weight loss success! Be certain to go after the low-fat dairy products and limit the amount you consume.

Try not to fall victim to the myriad of diet myths circulating the Internet. A good balance between exercise and proper eating can be very beneficial for your success in dieting!
